Our Story

About Karen Chapman School of Dancing

From establishing in 1991, we have become a successful dance school in Harlow where we specialise in a range of dance lessons such as tap, ballet, theatre craft, freestyle jazz, and adults tap dancing.

At Karen Chapman School of Dancing, we are proud to show off all our skillful dancers, which is why we perform in many popular shows at The Playhouse, Harlow. We perform in a show every year, which usually takes place at Rhodes Theatre in Bishop Stortford or at The Playhouse in Harlow around July.

As well as undertaking shows, we also have excellent pass rates, as our pupils take examinations with The International Dance Teachers Association. We take great pride in having a 100% pass rate in all exams we take part in each year in March and July.

From previously having 150 successful examinations, our 35 students received honours which was 85% and over as well as 5 of our children who took part in the Pre-Juvenile group ballet award, gaining the top mark of highly commended. Our teaching team have danced, examined and performed with this school themselves, so every class is led by someone who knows exactly how it feels to stand on that stage for the first time.

Karen Chapman - Principal

Karen Chapman, principal of Karen Chapman School of Dancing, established her own dance school in 1991. Since then she has taught adult tap dancing and music movement classes for both parents and their children with Essex County Council Adult Community College.

As a highly qualified and experienced dancer and teacher, Karen is the perfect and only choice to lead a successful dance school to help others learn and enjoy a range of different dances.

Louise Chapman and Emily Thorpe our student teachers, help our team to teach a range of classes including ballet, tap, theatre craft, and freestyle jazz.

Being great team members, Louise and Emily have performed and helped backstage in all our shows, been very successful in exam records, and have an excellent percentage with Honours.
